16- An Answer to Atheist Scientists
They say that today's scientists have determined, through investigation, that if a specific vessel is removed from an individual's body, he cannot perform the related task because they have incapacitated parts, particles, and cells of that sense. Based on this experience, they argue that the spirit does not exist.
We say in their response: this proves exactly why the spirit does exist. You have damaged that tool which the spirit needs to use, and so, it cannot function with that specific area anymore. Just like when you remove a piece (vessel) from the radio, that radio can no longer function correctly.
Even though conscience and thoughts may seem magnificent and higher than comprehension, they are nothing but products of material and physical elements, called the brain.
Friedrich Engels – Physical world
Experience teaches us that if the physical environment (e.g., light, temperature, moisture, etc.) changes, the constructs, and functioning of a living being will change. The brain is also subject to this principle.
Dr. Taqi Arani
As proof for the existence of spirit and thoughts, Camille Flammarion argues that if a part of the brain is damaged, thoughts can still function with the undamaged parts. He argues that if the brain were only of material elements, its functioning would have been affected. He provides some instances as examples. He also argues that experts cannot find the spirit at their scalpels' tips because the spirit is not there.
