34- First - Gustatory Sense

The Mechanism Of The Creation Category 1: Visible Senses
Gustatory sense – Mouth and tongue and the larynx

Its characteristic is tasting, and its manifestation area is on the tongue and inside the mouth. One of its effects is to stimulate humans towards foods necessary for the body. The gustatory sense is a reliable guide for the body's needs. If one is craving for a particular food, it is because it is (in a certain amount) beneficial to the body and vice versa. The gustatory sense is a selection mechanism that admits beneficial nutrients to the body and prevents bad ones. Had it not existed, perhaps the body would have been contaminated with poisons and other harmful substances.
By the same logic, even if an individual consumes too much of some delicious food, the gustatory system will resent it, and they may say: "I am sick of this food."
Such words like bitter or salty (in excessive terms) means substances that the gustation system does not accept and are not particularly beneficial to the body.
Nevertheless, there are certain medications such as sodium sulfate (Glauber's salt) that, albeit bitter, are beneficial for the body. The reason being that all medications are harmful to the body, but they are beneficial for a specific issue and for curing a particular sickness. We consume these medications while disregarding our sense and its natural notification.

Not having a sense of gustation decreases the desire towards life. The loss of this sense is so significant that it affects ones’ livelihood more than the loss of some other senses.
If one cannot taste what they are eating, they may eat harmful substances (such as opium) without tasting bitterness to prevent them from eating it. However, a person who has the gustatory sense will instantly spit out harmful substances, like chewing a bitter almond among ten sweet almonds.
