You light a match in a pile of firewood and burn them; they all turn into ashes. Among these, which one is the cause, and which one is the effect? It seems that the match was the cause. However, now that it has also turned into ashes, we can no longer distinguish the cause and the effect.
We put a piece of charcoal over the fire to heat up. The charcoal is the effect, and the fire is the cause. However, as soon as the charcoal turns into fire, it becomes the cause. Therefore, the effect is now the cause.
