5.I Am Not Powerless
Did you hear what the mirror was saying? These words were the present moment. Others might argue that: “Who is this small-town man reciting the words of guidance, evoking us to unification? Is he but a feeble man just like the others, with his existence being useless and redundant? Who is this insignificant individual, talking big words? ”
I would say: “You are in the wrong if you think of me as feeble. I am not powerless. Although my flesh looks insignificant to you, and although I look like one who comes from a small town, I am a mirror designated to receive the lights of divine wisdom and reflect them.”
We are not feeble but powerful. We are not redundant. Destiny has designated a function for us, just like everyone else. Our function is to guide, to advertise, and to lead. We receive the lights of the sun of verity just like that mirror, and we reflect that light to the world. Why do you presume that this body is powerless? Is it not true that this body is the intermediary to obtain such grace and to broadcast it? Is it not the spirit that moves our flesh?
Furthermore, is the spirit that moves the body ours? Where are you, and what do you think? What is the power that captures the sun’s light, and what is the drop that joins to the ocean? It is a portion of the same sunlight and a small drop of the same sea that manifests effects within us. So, my dears, we are powerful, because we benefit from the light and the power of love. Why be feeble? Is our spirit anything but the divine order: “And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, the soul is of the affair of my Lord ”. (Surah Al-Isra, Verse 85)
Is it not true that the will of God is dominant in all existence, and God is the light of the skies and the Earth? So, how can the spirit be minute?
We are not detached from the universe, and who can claim to be separate from this world? We are all connected in this sea. Each has its role and place in this enlightened arena. There is an objective designated for us that binds us, and we cannot be eliminated. Therefore, how are we feeble and redundant?
