Horrid Thoughts
There is a notion that we should refrain from horrid deeds. I say, one should not even let inappropriate thoughts in their mind because actions stem from thoughts, and every wicked deed begins with a thought. When one does not let unjust thoughts in his mind, it is as if there have never been any inappropriate thoughts sowed on the farm of his existence; therefore, no weed will ever grow. O noble and well-tempered man, O you, a human being, awaken, and seek advice. Suspicion, false notions, temptation, and distorted imagination are among those abominations and demons. Is it deserving of housing these in our minds and spirit and body? We should repel them with determination to traverse the path towards felicity.
As the Holy Quran states: “And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight, and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned.” (Al-Isra, Verse 36)
