Endeavor in Doing Good Deeds

The Flowers Of Guidance Volume One Preventing Negligence
One who provides the equipment for a heinous act, even if he fails in the act, his responsibility is equal to one who did that act. Here we see a thief captured and injured during the robbery.

For instance, consider that an individual leaves his house to help a needy friend. He buys food and accessories, and endeavors to find his house. However, he finds out his friend is not there and fails to meet him. While it is true that his work had failed, he is going to gain his reward regardless. Because the value is in the steps this individual took, and it is in the deed he has done, even though he may not have obtained his goal. Also, because he has spent his time doing a good deed, his internal conscience (perispirit) is satisfied.

On the contrary, consider an individual who prepares for a heinous act (such as robbery). He takes all the necessary steps but fails to carry out his plan. In the eyes of the conscience and truth, he is still responsible, even though he failed. The reason is that in both instances, the attainment of outcome is out of their volition. They prepared their tools for their actions, and even though they did not reach their goal, they will reap what they sow.
