Those who gossip will lose all respect and become worthless and loathsome in the eyes of wise listeners.  Furthermore, sooner or later, the person subject to the gossips will find out and will see the gossiper as a despicable character. One who has self-restraint from gossiping and avoids doing this will be recognized for this noble trait by his acquaintances. He is sure to become valued, and his personality will become admired in society. All will have trust in him, and he will have public respect, and all his friends and even enemies are sure that he will never talk behind their back. Can one ask for higher moral safety than this?
