Our Responsibility Towards Rumors
The same principle applies to rumors. When a person hears an inconsequential and nonsensical rumor, it is better to not register it in his mind at all, or as the proverb goes: “it should go in one ear and out the other.” But if the subject is of importance, he is obligated to investigate. When he investigates and is ensured that the rumor is true, he can cite that subject; but if not, he should forget the whole idea at once.
