Consultation with Elders

The Flowers Of Guidance Volume One
Consultation in affairs is one of the best ways to solve problems.

Most people facing a problem or an obstacle that they are unable to solve may complain they have no means to find a solution. They then become desperate while trying to solve the problem themselves. They are unaware that the order of society has a principle named consultation that resolves problems. When someone gets perplexed in a task, he can seek this path. There are always people to consult, but it is beneficial to consider these notations when seeking consultation:

We seek consultation only when our rightful mind and impartial thinking is incapable of solving the problem.

In consultation, we should find a person with experience, information, and expertise in the area for which we seek consultation.

Seek impartial individuals for consultation, those who are not under the influence of different agendas.

Accept consultation from those that we have full confidence in their integrity and honesty.

Elders have a higher qualification in terms of experience. Since they are more experienced in affairs, their opinions are mostly right, they are more impartial than others, their breadth of thoughts and their objectives are excellent, and their kindness, affection and dedication are grand.

So, dear readers, if we ever got perplexed in an affair, we should take advantage of this God-given gift that is made available to us. Making hasty judgments and inconsiderate and abrupt decisions cause regret and sometimes adversity and a decline of the human being into the dungeon of shame. How better would it be if we resort to consultation and salvation, instead of making hasty decisions?

Know that it is always wise and advisable to seek consultation.

Summarizing the above stated in a Ruba’i (quatrain)

When one is perplexed while encountering a complex affair in the society

Or when one thinks he cannot solve a problem in its entirety
