Story about Power of Women

The Flowers Of Guidance Volume One Women Are the Foundation of Love and Beneficence in the Family

There is a famous story that a Persian king (possibly Nader Shah), stopped at a construction site while visiting a city. There, he saw a worker who threw bricks with such strange force and strength that it seemed odd for a normal human being. He was active, like a bee, never tired or fatigued while murmuring silently from happiness and merriment. The king was in awe. The next day, he revisited him. He asked his minister to determine the secret behind this man’s happiness and energy. When the minister asked around, he found that this man has a wife whom he loves, that friendship, affection, and unity between them is abundant, which is the reason that this construction worker was so happy and active. When he finishes his work at night, he rushes home with absolute joyfulness and jubilation as if the whole world belongs to him. When the minister told the outcome of his investigation to the king, the latter was skeptical. So, the minister decided to prove the matter to the king. He carried out a mission that caused the separation between this beloved couple. On that very same day that this painful incident took place, that active and happy worker fell from that merriment and delight and could not even demonstrate one-tenth of his previous strength. Sorrow, misery, and dullness were evident in his entire body despite his big and powerful arms.

The great poet and the cherished man of Iran, Saadi (peace be upon him) denotes:

A good, virtuous, and obedient woman
Can make a dervish1 to be a king among men
