9. Remuneration and Retribution in The After Life
As for remuneration and retribution, when a human being dies, his life’s movie will be displayed by the will of God before his eyes and the eyes of the holy saints and other beings. If the human has done good deeds in his life, he will be happy and proud. Conversely, if his life was filled with hideous and shameful behavior, he will be embarrassed and ashamed. For example, imagine that a man has trusted a friend with his wife, but the shameless friend betrays him in his absence. When he returns, imagine that his friend swears he has not betrayed him.
In perispirit display, he will inevitably repeat the same actions, and he will take the same oath before everyone’s eyes with no escape. Such grave shame, and yet, there will be no escape.
Then suppose that while the shame that is his life’s movie is on constant display, he does a good deed. This showing will mitigate his shame and provide a chance to breathe, at least until another good or bad deed occurs.
Pity one whose deeds are shameful and bless one whose deeds are admirable. What remuneration is more superior, and what retribution is fiercer and more crushing? As stated by the poet:
Throw me into the fire without mention of guilts of mine
No fire is as hot as this sweat of shame of mine
