The Duty of Joy
Preserving the environment of happiness and joy is one responsibility of humans, which is arguably one way of being thankful. Because being thankful means being grateful for blessings, and one who is thankful demonstrates that he has identified a source. So, he is thankful for the benefits and affections and blessings of that source according to his assessment. He understands that what happens to him is for his benefit and welfare and that he needs a cheerful spirit and optimism to utilize those blessings, not a doleful and pessimistic one. So, it is upon all to preserve such joyous environments. Therefore, one must be affable, optimistic, refrain from all activities that induce sorrow, sadness and discomfort and spread fragrant seeds of joy. Everyone would become joyous and benefit from the blessings of God and know that sorrows are transient and soon will be replaced by pleasure and joyfulness.
